Base Engineer Administrative Facility

Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota

The new facility consolidates the numerous administrative functions into a single two-story building.The first floor contains easily accessible customer service areas and a welcoming entrance. The building is designed with a uniform system of column and beams and no bearing walls. A movable wall system was selected to provide on-going configuration flexibility decreasing future remodeling costs. Many of the spaces have open flexible office layouts that allow for modification to accommodate future flexible  

Under tight schedule and budget constraints, the structural system chosen for the sloping roofs and ceilings was light gage metal to reduce the overall weight of the structure resulting in fast paced construction. An exterior wall design utilizing steel studs with composite board siding also reduced materials costs and shortened construction.
