Bergan Mercy Medical Center

Omaha, Nebraska

A developed 20-year master plan for this major medical center included a first phase major surgery center addition and a new hospital entry lobby. The 68,000-SF Procedure Center includes 12 operating rooms designed for multiple procedures. New catheterization laboratories and an endoscopy suite consisting of five G.I. rooms and a minor procedures room are included and supported by 52 private perioperative rooms and 15 post-anesthesia care units. The Procedure Center also includes new staff areas, physician's lounge, anesthesia work and sleep areas, and a new lab that serves the entire campus. The lower level provides parking and a private discharge area for outpatients.

A complete renovation and reassignment to the main floor departments included a new main entrance, multi-story atrium lobby providing an updated image to the medical center, a new state-of-the-art heart center, physical therapy department, access service, expanded diagnostics department, and renovation to the pharmacy. Improved wayfinding was achieved through the separation of hospital service traffic from public traffic.

All aspects of the facility were based on the concept of improving the patient experience and creating a more hospitable and comforting healing environment. Renovations to the exterior enhanced the existing facility’s energy efficiency and created a new image for the Bergan Mercy Medical Center campus.
