El Conquistador, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Fajardo, Puerto Rico

The 1,200-room, four-star El Conquistador Resort and Golden Door Spa has two primary guest wings and separate Las Olas and La Marina casitas developments. The resort includes a golf course and clubhouse, yacht harbor and ferry service to a private island providing beach access, casino, grand ballroom and meeting rooms, several restaurants, and limited retail shops for hotel guests.

Due to increased competition, the resort repositioned itself to maximize appeal to Puerto Rico based clientele. A lucrative portion of its business is hosting trade shows and conventions for local pharmaceutical manufacturers. LEO A DALY teamed with Puerto Rico firm Ray Architects, which was the architect-of-record.

The project expanded ballroom and meeting room facilities. Due to the quantity of guestrooms, the client's marketing analysis indicated the resort can support two concurrent conventions, so a second grand ballroom, kitchen, and meeting/breakout rooms were added. New terraces, plazas, and lawn areas were created for trade show kiosks and overflow breakout functions.

"The great design and architecture at the Condado and El Conquistador will differentiate our company and our brand from others in the industry. That's why we chose LEO A DALY. The measurable difference is what the company can provide over other firms that are not at the same level of quality, creativity, or ingenuity."
