Incline Village Library
Incline Village, Nevada
The library incorporates the "Tahoe Style" of the area, using indigenous materials including stone and heavy timber construction. Glue-laminated wood trusses and decking are exposed on the interior. A continuous translucent skylight along the ridge of the sloped roof floods the room with soft, diffused light and adds to an open, airy feeling. Glass on all sides of the library captures the view in all directions; five bay windows to the south are favorite reading spots.
The focal point of the building is a large stone fireplace surrounded by over-stuffed chairs. The library provides adequate and accessible stack space to meet the growing demands of the community, including a separate Young People's Library. A community meeting room that may be subdivided provides a gathering resource available to all patrons. Provisions for self-sort and self-checkout reduce staffing requirements.
