Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center, Renerwal of Ambulatory Surgical Center
Fort George G. Meade, Maryland
Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center's goal was to create a state-of-the-art community ambulatory surgical center. The center had a serioes of critical functional deficiencies creating flow problems that interfered with the quality of care, staff efficiency and overall patient experience.
Surgical services were moved into another section of the existing facility to allow the public better access, resolve the flow problems and allow for easy future expansion. The resulting layout vastly improves the patient, staff and supply flow within the confines of the existing 1960's building.
The Ambulatory Surgical Center is collocated within one area of the facility reducing staff inefficiency and creating a collaborative healthcare environment between doctors, nurses and support staff. The project demolished a wing of the existing center in order to accommodate a new surgical wing.
The project features four operating rooms including three general and one larger orthopedic operating room, two endoscopy rooms, and a new central sterile supply suite. Additionally, 28 flexible pre/post bed stations within the anesthesia care units allow the procedures to be conducted without patients waiting for a station or stacked in recovery.
