King Kekaulike High School Performing Arts Center
LEO A DALY collaborated with the Department of Education's Facilities Group to engage representatives of the school and to develop and confirm the requirements for the project. A series of visits to like facilities, and a design charrette helped develop a functional program and space needs; understand the design parameters and constraints; assess the feasibility of the budget established for the project; evaluate several conceptual schemes for the performance facility; and establish the design direction for the Schematic Design phase of the project.
The 40,000-SF project will accommodate drama, dance and music concerts, lectures and presentations, assemblies and meetings. Phase One of the Performing Arts Center includes a 400-seat performance theatre with a lobby, house, stage, and back-of-house support functions. Phase Two is planned for a black box, instructional functions and administrative offices. An integral part of the project will be sustainable design principles and elements.
