Lied Scottsbluff Public Library, Addition and Renovation

Scottsbluff, Nebraska

The Scottsbluff Public Library Board commissioned LEO A DALY to assist with a feasibility study to assess the library's future needs, provide expansion/renovation options, and provide subsequent architectural services. The conceptual library footprint was two times larger than the facility; consequently, the raised center roof was modified to include clerestory windows, allowing diffused and controlled daylight to enhance the quality and comfort of the library interiors. These windows also provide a glowing lantern-look to the exterior during evenings and twilight hours. This project is the first in western Nebraska to achieve LEED certification.

"When people come in they just rave about the appearance. We had one young man come in and tell us he's not a reader, but seeing the library makes him want to read."
