Renovation to Accommodate New Spaces and Technologies

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

This interior renovation of the two-story, 45,000-SF community college library included a complete redesign of existing first-floor spaces, and the conversion of the entire second story to library space to accommodate a growing collection and the evolving technological and organizational needs of the library. The library transformation encompassed reorganization of existing functions including entry and security, service points, collections, study spaces, and administrative offices, as well as the addition of new program spaces including instructional rooms, media stations, a distance-learning classroom, and an information commons.

The highlight of the project was the creation of an invitational stair adjacent to the main entry and information commons that unified the first and second floors through visual and physical connections. The scope of this project also included a 10-year vision study in which the Leo A Daly team identified preferred avenues for expansion and developed a new glass entry atrium/cafe concept.
