B. Thomas Golisano Library
Rochester, New York
The library is designed to meet the University’s objectives of increasing student gathering space and to provide a sustainable facility that encourages the usage by patrons. Increasing space for students is achieved through the creation of a study café that is incorporated into the library’s study area. Access to the study café and a 32-station computer lab is available 24/7 via access cards. Wireless access makes the study café a natural gathering place for students. The library has two fireplaces, adding to the comfortable look and feel of the space. Other amenities include group study rooms, a conference room, a Graduate Research Room, a Curriculum Center and an Archives area.
Sustainable design techniques and materials were considered throughout the entire design process and contributed toward LEED-NC Silver certification. Green features include the use of geothermal heat pumps, energy-efficient and natural lighting, high efficiency insulation practices, use of high efficiency plumbing fixtures, and drought-resistant landscaping.
