Squadron Operations Facility - 37th Bomb Squadron

Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota

This new, 58,125-SF facility consolidates the operation and maintenance of a B-1B bomb squadron. The Operations Duty Desk is the focal point of all squadron operations and has visual control of the main building entry, major internal circulation, and access to the flight line. It houses all command, control, training, administration, scheduling, mission planning, equipment maintenance (electronic and aircraft), intelligence analysis, assembly, secure compartmented information areas (SCIF), and equipment storage (mobility and daily-use) for the 37th Bomb Squadron.

The 9,149-SF SCIF area includes mission planning, intelligence research library, weapons tactics office, crew communications office, mission briefing rooms, and a 200-seat auditorium. The auditorium is used to provide classified briefings (cleared up to top secret level) and for various commander briefings and training classes. Additional classrooms are located in three other areas of the building. The Squad-Ops facility also contains separate administrative areas for: squadron command section; aircrew scheduling, training, and records; aircraft maintenance control; scheduling, records, and mobility; indoor troop assembly area; and mission debriefing. The building also has dedicated maintenance areas for electronics, navigational aids, computers, and aircrew life support equipment.

Secure storage of fire arms, ammunition, mission equipment, aircraft spares, mobility bags, and personal gear/equipment is accomplished throughout the building, and with the majority either in armory vaults or in a 29,654-SF maintenance storage area. The storage area also has a 2,260-SF storage mezzanine and an indoor drive-through vehicle loading bay.
