Sugar Grove Public Library
Sugar Grove, Illinois
Faced with overwhelming growth and a dramatically undersized library, LEO A DALY, in affiliation with Cordogan, Clark & Associates, was commissioned to work with the library board and the community in preparing a master plan for its short- and long-range future. Through a series of collaborative workshops involving the staff, library board, and community, a 32,000-SF new library was conceived for phase one, with a planned “expansion avenue” up to 40,000 SF.
The library’s exterior image reflects the rural spirit of Sugar Grove Village. The architectural language recalls historic clap-board clad forms from past Sugar Grove halls and houses, with shaded walkways, colonnaded porches, sloped roofs, cupolas, and screened-in reading room. The interior is user-friendly, offering plenty of natural light, books and computers, coffee shop, charming children’s area, fireplace reading room, teen space, convenient self-check stations, covered drive-up book drop, and large- and small-group study/program rooms.
