Leo A Daly served as the architecture/engineering design firm for this new home for the National Park Service. Developed under the GSA design excellence program, the building is LEED-NC® Gold certified. The facility houses enclosed and open offices for up to 150 employees, along with a visitor information center, outdoor teaching gardens, and conferencing facilities. The three-story, 68,000-SF facility's aesthetics and overall design solution were a direct result of meeting not only the functional and operational requirements of the NPS, but also the incorporation of specific sustainable design practices, including daylighting, locally accessible construction methods and materials, minimal impermeable site development, indigenous plant materials, and a geothermal ground contact heat pump.
"It's great working in a sustainable building that reflects our agency's conservation mission and which will be a great sustainability teaching tool for our visitors."
