Stater Bros. Markets is the largest privately owned supermarket chain in southern California. A new facility was needed to consolidate and replace eight warehouses totaling 1.7 million SF into a single 2.2 million-SF energy- and operationally-efficient distribution facility.
The 162-acre site is located on the former Norton Air Force Base. It was selected because of its proximity to Stater Bros. Markets current facilities and useful interstate access. Located in a seismically active area, it required design strategies to create earthquake-resistant buildings that ensure the safety and security of the building occupants and assets.
The design responds to logistics challenges to reduce cost of operation and maximize efficiency. Buildings incorporate bi-level lighting and skylights to reduce electrical costs and maximize natural light. Energy-efficient refrigeration design incorporates the latest controls technologies to further reduce operational costs.
State-of-the-art data communication and security systems enable Stater Bros. Markets to manage up to 200 visitors a day efficiently and safely.
