The world's second-largest charcoal manufacturer, Royal Oak Enterprises, Inc., wanted its corporate headquarters to reflect the nature of its product: outdoors, rustic and natural. Adding to the challenge, a fast-track schedule was already in place when Leo A Daly was selected to provide full-service design. To achieve Royal Oak's vision using a 10-month design and construction schedule, a simple form with repetitive natural features was created. The 60,000-SF building was positioned into the wooded hill to leave the site undisturbed, and a natural palette of colors that could be used interchangeably indoors or out was selected.
