Leo A Daly was the Executive Architect and Engineer for the landmark home of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The project, involves a large plaza and underground parking garage in an active seismic zone and in downtown Los Angeles, was physically and programmatically complex.
Leo A Daly is familiar with the requirements of such large projects and how to coordinate the team of consultants. As executive architect, Leo A Daly successfully managed this complex, high profile project by working closely with the design architect, Rafael Moneo, and placing our staff in his office during design, and his staff in our Los Angeles office during documentation and construction. This ensured quick, accurate communication, and seamless execution.
The site includes a 128,000 SF (3,000-seat) cathedral, 23,000-SF residence for the Archbishop, resident clergy, and visitors. It also includes a 55,000-SF conference center with parish offices and meeting rooms. Other amenities include a 2.5-acre plaza, cloister garden, 156-FT campanile tower, cafe, religious items store, and 600-car underground parking garage.
“…one of the great modern worship spaces, infusing a dynamic exposed concrete structure with light and spirituality.”
