The new, 34,000-SF Youth Community Center is located adjacent to the community library and near school buildings and playing fields, making it convenient for children to walk directly from school for after school programs. The building’s central hub houses administrative offices and training, kitchen, and building service functions. Two main corridors lead from the hub to activity rooms and gymnasium spaces, where activities are segregated by age group. The corridors and gyms are provided with natural light from clerestory windows. The facility’s exterior uses a pallet of materials and colors to complement adjacent Lackland Independent School District buildings.
