First National Bank's goals in building a 40-story office tower were enhancing its image as a leading financial institution and consolidating staff into a corporate campus. As a corporate citizen, it also wanted to invest in the city it has called home for 150 years.
The First National Tower establishes a benchmark for design excellence and has served as a catalyst for public/private investment in downtown revitalization. Providing a skyline enhancing profile, its composition suggests strength and stability. The base and piers are clad in warm-toned granite. Glazing reflects weather patterns and colors of the Missouri River. Polished black granite at ground level provides a crisp finish. A 60-ft. high glass-enclosed winter garden overlooks an exterior plaza and fountain providing a public space and crystalline campus centerpiece. The wintergarden's focal point is a four-story section of terra cotta, limestone and brick upper facade from the 1924 building that originally occupied the site.

"Design of the Tower was handled superbly... The final design was represented in a very complete set of construction documents. We have been told more than once by subcontractors and consultants that the quality of the construction drawing set was the best they have seen. The Tower at First National Center is truly a successful project."
