KPMG, a leading management consulting firm, understands the importance of well-designed, productive offices and sets an example for clients. When it was searching for a new location for a Washington, DC office, we were asked to assist in site selection, programming, space planning and designing it.
The building selected was under construction. Before construction completion, we carved out unused garage space to enlarge a reception area, which features direct access to KPMG's offices through the back of elevators. This greatly increased its exposure in the building without significantly increasing the budget.
Permanent workspaces are only provided for support staff. Consultants do not require permanent space because they often work at client sites. When in the office, consultants "hotel" in assigned spaces. Workspaces can easily be reconfigured according to the occupant's rank or converted to a conference room by relocating walls. All building systems can be used in any configuration.
